Vintage rally: Legacy, out for a long drive

CHENNAI: Commuters were confounded when a line of heritage cars trundled down the roads of the city on Sunday morning.

One after the other, the two-wheeled powerhouses andfour-wheeled showstoppers went past curious motorists to Don Bosco School at Egmore for the ninth edition of the annual MyTVS heritage rally organised by the Madras Heritage Motoring Club. After 9 am, the heritage vehicles were driven out as a rally from Don Bosco through Spur Tank Road, College Road, Pantheon Road and back to the school grounds. The 110 cars and 40 bikes that turned up for the event were judged on authenticity, restoration, condition and appeal, said V S Kylas, founder secretary of the club. A 1954 Dodge, an 80-year-old Chevrolet and a Buick were declared the best heritage cars. Sumanth Chaganti's BSA bike was adjudged the best among the motorcycles. Severalhundredsof people turned up for the event this year. "We have conducted 40 events in 11 years, but we had the highest number of visitors this time," said Kylas, who displayed two of his seven heritage cars in the show.

The judges were Raja Mukharjee from Kolkata and Partha Banik from Chennai. Actress Priya Anand flagged off this year's rally.
