BERHAMPUR: The house committee on linguistic minority of the assembly on Tuesday reviewed problems of Telugu-medium schools in Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

The committee, led by women and child development minister Usha Devi, discussed with officials of both the districts and representatives of Telugu communities. Other members of the committee included Kabisuryanagar MLA V Sugyan Kumari Deo and Berhampur MLA R Chyaupattnaik.

Shortage of Telugu teachers in bilingual schools will be sorted out soon as the government has decided to recruit around 100 teachers. Devi said Telugu students will be admitted to Secondary Training School, Chikiti, as there is a proposal to make the Odia school into a bilingual one. CT in Telugu has already been introduced in the Chikiti school.

Collector (Ganjam) Krishan Kumar told the meeting with the house panel that a separate section for BEd Telugu teachers' training should be opened at State-run Dibakara Patnaik Institute of Advance Studies in Education (DPIASE) at Kanishi in the district. "It will meet the dearth of trained Telugu teachers in the state," reasoned district education officer (Ganjam) S K Patra.
