Even as the UPA pats itself on the back for having carved out Telangana
out of Andhra Pradesh, the people of the proposed new state have been
busy creating their own emblem for Telangana.
The official
proposed emblem is a circular one which reads Government of Telangana on
the top, has the word "Telangana" written in Telugu, Urdu and Hindi
along the circle.
In the middle is the Kakatiya Thoranam replacing the "Poorna Kumbham" seen in the Andhra Pradesh government emblem.
The Kakatiya Thoranam represents the Telangana culture. At the bottom of the logo is India's national emblem.
That
isn't all. Sources say that a new official song for the state has also
been created. The song, Jaya Jayahe Telangana Janani Jaya Ketanam, will
replace the official song of Andhra Pradesh, Maa Telugu Talliki Malle
Poodanda.
Telangana met a nearly five-decade-old statehood demand on July 30.
Telangana,
which comprises 10 districts including Hyderabad, was part of the
erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad and has a distinct culture. Its
leaders had accused rulers from Andhra for doing injustice to the region
in all sectors and going back on the assurances given at the time of
merger.
Telangana will have a population of 35.38 million and an area of 1.14 lakh square km.
After
the bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh has become India's first linguistic
state to be divided. Carved out of then Madras State in 1953, it was the
first state formed on linguistic basis.
