Some 98,805 gigawatts per hour (GW/h) of electricity have been
generated in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year
(started March 21). According to the report released by
Moj News Agency, 92,451 GW/h and 6,354 GW/h of the total electricity
pertained to thermal and hydroelectric power plants respectively.
It also said 100,229 GW/h of electricity were supplied to meet domestic needs during the period.
Iran's
Energy Ministry said in July that electricity exports to neighboring
states exceeded 1,000 megawatts, as the Islamic Republic is helping
neighbors overcome chronic electricity shortages and regular blackouts.
Iran's
electricity exports to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Turkey amounted
to 1,059 MW, while imports from Armenia and Turkmenistan reached 155 MW.
On January 19, Managing Director of Iran Power Generation and
Transmission Company (TAVANIR) Homayoun Hayeri said the country ranks
first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation.
"Iran's
electricity industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle
East in terms of electricity generation by having an installed power
generation capacity of 67,806 MW," he said.
The official noted that
Iran is the largest exporter and importer of electricity in the Middle
East and swaps power with many countries in the region.
Hayeri
pointed out that 99 percent of the equipment required for power
generation, transfer and distribution are domestically designed and
produced.
