US boy raises money to buy wheelchair for disabled dog

NEW YORK: An eight-year-old US boy has raised more than $300, selling key chains and magnets to buy a wheelchair for his disabled dog.

Ryder McConathy, from Kentucky, raised the money in just a few days for his dog who was diagnosed with degenerative mylopathy last year.

"He fell down the whole set of stairs and the next day his feet were sort of dragging and we realised [what] had happened to him," Ryder McConathy told ksn.com last week.

Watching the nine-year-old canine Cacious struggle to move around the home in Lexington was hard for Ryder and the rest of the family to watch. So he decided to do something about it, the 'New York Daily News' reported.

Ryder sold key chains and magnets and ended up raising $315 in just a few days. They got the wheels for Cacious, and even had money left over which the family donated to the Humane Society.

The wheelchair greatly enhances the quality of life for Cacious, who can routinely go outside now.

"Hopefully this will give him a lot more freedom and mobility and he'll be with us a lot longer," said Lyssa, Ryder's mother.
