ISLAMABAD: After the Supreme Court's hearing in a contempt notice
against him on Friday, the PTI chief Imran Khan said that he just came
to know that "shameful" was an abusive word.
Imran said he stood by his stance about the judiciary and whatever he
had said was right. is sent to jail or is declared disqualified. He
said this while talking to media men outside his residence and
expressing his views in a private TV channel programme.
Sticking to his stance, he said apology is offered at the time when
some wrong is committed. "I have not said anything wrong which
constitutes contempt of court. It is beyond comprehension as to why
contempt of court notice has been issued to me," he remarked.
He alleged returning officers in collusion with each other committed
the biggest rigging of the history of the country during general
elections. If judiciary is not independent, then democracy can not come,
he said. "We always fought for the cause of independent judiciary," he
remarked.
He said, "I have not committed any mistake therefore, why I should I
tender an apology. I am fighting the war of democracy in the country. I
am ready to go to jail if they put me behind the bars in contempt of
court case. I will continue to expose the polls rigging."
He said, "Chief justice (Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry) has become
controversial in Arsalan Iftikhar case and if the petition filed by PTI
with regard to investigation into polls rigging is not heard, then chief
justice will become controversial once again."
Welcoming Aitzaz Ahsan offer for assistance in the case, Imran said,
"We will benefit from Aitzaz Ahsan if need be." He said the Election
Commission of Pakistan and returning officers were involved the worst
ever rigging in May 11 general elections.
He called upon government to announce exit from what he called "the
US war" and lodge strong protest with US against drone attacks.
Terrorism is escalating with the rise in drone strikes in the country,
he claimed.
"I want to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and army chief alone in
camera on the issue of terrorism and I want to know government policies
and clandestine agreements," he said.Forming government in Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa is democratic right of PTI as it enjoys clear cut majority
there, he said. He said the PTI will bring about a marked change in the
province and ensure norms of merit are put in place in all institutions.
Former Chief Minister Balochistan Aslam Raisani defended Imran Khan in
contempt of court case.
Raisani sat outside SC when the security forces stopped him from
entering the court premises. However, later, he was allowed to enter the
SC along with other leaders.Asked about the difference between the
previous and the incumbent Balochistan government, the former CM said
that he is a common man whereas Dr Abdul Maalik is a middle class person
who knows the prices of sugar and rice.
In reply to a question about Balochistan situation, he said that
Balochistan issue would be resolved if the Kashmir issue is resolved
first. To another question regarding court, Raisani said that he is
afraid to be handcuffed before going home.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari on
Friday said that PTI would issue a white paper on rigging in the May 11
general election to explain how final election results were manipulated
in over 35 National Assembly constituencies.
She said that the structure of the white paper has been finalised and
they are now simply putting together documents. She added that the
paper would be completed in the coming week.
Talking to the media, party leaders said that the documentary and
visual proofs about mismatches in the results would be presented to both
the Supreme Court (SC) as well as the Election Commission of Pakistan
(ECP).
It merits mentioning here that Mazari is heading the committee that
is preparing the white paper. It is reported that this paper will expose
how some politicians allegedly managed to obtain desired results in
their respective constituencies on May 11.
A member of the committee said that they had collected some 12,000 election related complaints from across the country.
