Crime branch, cops nab two highway robbers arrested in Dehat

KANPUR: Two highway robbers were arrested in Kanpur Dehat on Saturday. The crime branch and the police arrested two men, who used to target consignment-laden trucks on highways.

Superintendent of police Kripa Shanker Singh said that the two robbers were identified as Idris alias Guddu of Shahjahanpur district and Dinesh, a resident of Bhaura village of Rura area of Kanpur Dehat district. The other members of the gang identified as Lalla alias Ganga Yadav of Pukhrayan, BP Yadav of Chotey Ka Purwa in Musanagar, Irfan, Appu and Sultan of Gurgaon in Haryana and Rasheed of Shahjahanpur district are yet to be arrested.

"Teams have been constituted to zero-in on the other members of the gang. The accused used to operate on National highway-2 and National highway-24 between Kanpur Dehat district, Auraiyya and Etawah," a police official said.

They had committed loot on June 22 in Hardoi district and robbed a truck loaded with 150 sacks of sugar from Hawaspur area of Mangalpur in Kanpur Dehat. The truck was on its way to Orai from Hardoi. The robbers threw truck driver Indra Narain Mishra and his son near Hawaspur village and escaped with the consignment. Firearms, cartridges, sharp-edged weapons and an SUV were recovered from the arrested persons.

Singh said that the looted truck has been recovered from Sikandara area of the district. The accused told the police that they were involved in several cases of loot.
