Cricket museum to be set up in Bagh-e-Jinnah: minister

LAHORE

PROVINCIAL Minister for Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Rana Mashhood Ahmed has said the Punjab government will establish a cricket museum in a portion of historic Gymkhana Cricket Club Pavilion in Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore.

According to a handout issued here Sunday, the minister said this while addressing the participants of a two-month cricket training summer camp held at Gymkhana Cricket Ground in which 110 young cricketers of the age limit from 10 to 12 years participated.

The minister distributed cash prizes and shields among the young cricketers, their coaches, umpires and the ground men who conducted the summer camp. Lahore Gymkhana Cricket Club Chairman Mian Misbah ur Rehman, Honorary Secretary Javed Zaman and noted lawyer Rana Asad Ullah were also present.

It was announced on the occasion that Lahore Gymkhana Cricket Club would arrange the similar type of cricket training camp in the Christmas vacation for 15 days.

Social workers: Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that the persons who dedicated their lives and resources for social welfare are the assets to the society and the government will provide all-out cooperation and assistance to such people as well as NGOs.

According to a handout here on Sunday, the minister while expressing his views in a function with special people held at Fountain House said the provincial government was also providing maximum funds for the treatment and rehabilitation of mentally handicapped persons so that they could become self-reliant, useful and active members of the society. He said cooperation would be provided to the institutions of mental diseases treatment for creating awareness among the public regarding mental diseases.

Mujtaba emphasized the need for public awareness campaign regarding psychological/mental disease, however, he said that the patients of psychological diseases could not look after themselves, therefore, the family members/civil society should look after these patients properly.

He said by increasing the health budget up to Rs102 billion, the present government had ensured modern health facilities and free medicines as well as air-conditioning in general wards to poor and resource less people. He said that huge amount of Rs7.5 billon was being spent on the provision of free treatment and medicines to the poor and destitute in public sector hospitals of the province.
