VADODARA: Despite his hectic schedule, former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam during his visit to the city took out time to go through a unique work of art prepared by the students of Muslim Education Society (MES) School at Nagarwada.
As soon as Kalam arrived in the city on Saturday night to attend two programmes scheduled on Sunday, he met four students and an art teacher of the city even though their meeting wasn't scheduled.
The People's President was delighted to see the seven-metre long sheet which depicts India's history with one crore dots.
"He was so delighted to see this painting that he spent nearly 15 minutes talking to us at the Circuit House despite his busy schedule," Shoeb Narmawala, the art teacher at MES School, who had begun the project in 2004.
Year after year students from standard VIII to standard XII have pitched in with their contribution to prepare this painting using dots in water colour.
"The students had begun the project with the Mughal period and chronicled events up to the Indian freedom movement, and major news events like Kargil War, Cricket World Cup, Bollywood, major natural calamities, as also Indian festivals," said Narmawala. The drawing teacher has also taught cricketers Irfan and Yusuf Pathan and has been conferred with Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy Award twice.
