Country's first undergraduate heritage management course in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: For the first time in the country, BK Majumdar School of Management has started a heritage management course for undergraduate students of Business Administration (BBA). The course has been introduced in the second year graduate curriculum by Ahmedabad University.

While heritage management has long been considered an extension of architects' and archaeologists' conservation activities, today it is increasingly recognized that heritage management is a multi-disciplinary and management-oriented profession. Thus there is a need for studies grounded on disciplines of heritage and management. The course provides an overview of the heritage discourse, the management context of heritage, and how heritage management can be perceived as a potential field of practice.

Former director at NID Ashok Chatterjee said, "Heritage management has a widespread relevance today. It revolves around environment, everyday life, historic processes, and human development. It has widespread social, economic and political implications as well."

Experts who had gathered at the inaugural event on Wednesday dwelt on the restoration of the Rashtrapati Bhavan and other examples of heritage conservation and management in South Asian countries.
