The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has urged the Ministry of Home
Affairs (MHA) to provide more security to its officers investigating
the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.
The agency has written to
the MHA as well as the Maharashtra government in this connection, CBI
director Ranjit Sinha confirmed on Monday.
"We have written to the Maharashtra government and the MHA for security to the CBI officers," he told news reporters.
According
to reports, the CBI sought high-level security for its officers probing
the case of 2004 after investigating officer Sandeep Tamgadge, who is
an SP-rank officer based in Nagpur, received death threats recently.
Reports quoting CBI sources said they feared that attempts were being
made to sabotage the investigation.
As per reports, the Maharashtra Police has agreed to provide necessary security to the CBI officers working on the case.
Charges in the case are likely to be filed on July 4.
