Traffic violators now cannot escape penalties with integrated e-Challan system and facility of online payment
DGP V. Dinesh Reddy on Monday launched the new integrated e-Challan
system along with new advanced Personal Digital Assistants (PDA)
machines that are loaded with user-friendly features.
Now a person will be able to pay his challan immediately by swiping a
debit or credit card or through net banking facility provided in
Hyderabad Traffic Police website.
Pending cases
More than 70 per cent of the e-Challans are yet to be paid by the
motorists and the new PDAs will help in reducing this pendency,
Additional CP (Traffic) C.V. Anand said.
From now on, the e-Challans will also have photo of the violation and
public can view these photos through traffic police website, he said.
The option of paying online will be provided in the website by
Wednesday, he said.
Innovation
“Till now policemen used to take photos of the violations and raise the
challans, but these photos used to remain in the hard disks of police
stations. In the new system all these photos will be put online and
people can view the proof of the violation and then pay the challan
amount through net banking,” Mr. Anand explained.
Lauding the traffic police, Mr. Reddy said that the police force in the State is doing rapid progress through innovation.
“The foolproof system being implemented by the traffic police in the
city will go a long way in putting the city traffic police in the
forefront of enforcement.
The visual proof being provided along with the e-Challan will avoid unnecessary arguments with the public,” he said.
150 new PDAs
Traffic police procured 150 new PDAs that will be provided to officers
of SI and above rank. Motorists can view the photos of violations in the
PDAs too and can swipe their card to pay the challan amount which will
be immediately updated in the server.
However, the current practice of checking the motorists for pending
challans through older Personal Digital Assistants will continue and
motorists can pay the amount through e-Seva centres, net banking
facilities or through new Personal Digital Assistants wherever possible,
Mr. Anand clarified.
Mr. Reddy also handed over five Speed Laser Guns, 10 Tint Meters, 50 new
breath analysers, 88 outdoor UPS systems, to provide uninterrupted
power supply to CCTVs, and 350 wheel clamps.
Have your say
Despite the facility of immediate payment being extended, the traffic
violator will continue to pay Rs. 35 extra per e-Challan towards user
charges, printing and despatching costs, eSeva charges and
APTechnological Services charges. The police are considering to exempt
the eSeva charge of Rs 5 to those opting to use online payment facility.
