(SOIL), has announced
the inauguration of the Social Innovation Program for their new batch
of 2013-14. Social Innovation Program (SIP) is a unique initiative by the business school to introduce and engage students in social development and community service. The current SIP batch was launched by Dr. Kiran Bedi, renowned social activist and retired IPS officer.
She was present at the occasion to address the student body about the
potential of businesses working in collaboration with non-governmental
organizations.
In an effort to inculcate a sense of social awareness
amongst the students, SIP has been a part of the curriculum since the
inception of the institute. It involves each student compulsorily
dedicating one day of each week, during the B-school tenure at SOIL to
social causes. With the help of SOIL NGO consortium, which includes 25
NGOs as partners, students can participate in difference cause of
concern, address them and work towards a solution. Dr. Bedi's- Navjyoti
India Foundation- is also one of the esteemed partners of the
consortium.
On the occasion, Dr. Kiran Bedi addressed the audience with encouraging words on youth
working towards societal change, "You are an institution. Soil with
soul. It's amazing that you created a school which links directly to
NGOs. There's no other short cut. When you are working with NGOs you are seeing, feeling, believing. All your 5 senses
are into it. You taste, feel the air, sense the people's culture. This
is something which should have started back from standard IX. The
challenge is to use your learning. The fragrance
of learning will keep spreading. You must by now know what you want to
do, how far you want to go, where you want to see yourself. The fact
that you are SOIL means you have a sensitive feeling. SOIL is that
nutrition. Keep absorbing, learning and seeking."
Anil Sachdev,
Founder CEO, SOIL said "The aim of our Social Innovation Program is to
instill a sense of responsibility in the students. Mostly the youth is
aware of the social conditions, however, they do often require a direction to steer their efforts towards effective development. We have partnered with NGOs who aim to bring a change in the community and appreciate the support from SOIL students."
