More cities to have Flybus service to BIA

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Wednesday officially launched the ‘Flybus’, a non-stop, luxurious bus service connecting Mysore with Bengaluru International Airport (BIA), twice a day.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, while expressing confidence that the service would be well-received, said: “The Corporation is planning to extend the facility to other important city centres and inter-state operations are also being considered.”

The bus will be tracked using GPS and is equipped with a chemical toilet at the rear, a pantry and seats fitted with television screens with more than 70 live stream channels.
“It will also facilitate video on demand using WiFi services and will display real time flight arrival and departure information on LED boards,” an official added.

Pointing out that a survey had found that while passengers from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Salem and Trichy travel through the Chennai airport, those from Tirupati, Anantapur, etc, travel through the Hyderabad airport. He, however, said: “Choosing BIA would save time as it is at a shorter distance and is much economical considering the cost of travel.”

Explaining further, a KSRTC press note said: “For example, passengers from Coimbatore can save close to four hours (190 km), those from Tirupati can save close to five hours (215 km), if they choose BIA over airports in their states.”

KSRTC, Reddy said, would be introducing Flybus services to other cities like Mangalore, Tirupati and Coimbatore.

Admitting that in KSRTC buses which earlier boasted of pantry and chemical toilets, passengers were reluctant to sit near the toilet, Reddy said: “In this bus, the toilet has been fitted in the rear end to provide more comfort.”

He said a dedicated departure bay is provided at the Mysore Bus Station and BIA to help the travellers and also an enquiry counter is allotted.
